Speculation grew regarding the future of Alvaro Carreras. The 23-year-old left-back arrived from Benfica for a reported fee of 50 million euros just one year ago. His debut season in Spain was steady but lacked brilliance. The subsequent arrival of Cucurella, who started for Spain, threatened to push Carreras out of the starting lineup and prompted rumors of an immediate exit.

Manchester United reportedly considered a move to re-sign the defender, who spent four years in their academy system between 2020 and 2024. Chelsea also entered the fray. The London club had a clear vacancy at left-back after Cucurella moved to Madrid. Reports suggested Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso desired a reunion with the young Spaniard, whom he previously managed during a brief stint.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have finalized their strategy for the left-back position. The club intends to retain Carreras to serve as the primary backup to Cucurella. This decision effectively ends the pursuit by the two English Premier League giants.

Based on updates shared by Romano on social media, third-choice left-back Fran Garcia will leave the club instead. Real Madrid agreed to sell Garcia to Real Betis for a fee of 4 million euros. The deal includes a 50 percent sell-on clause retained by Los Blancos. Garcia accepted the terms and scheduled his medical examination with the Seville-based club.

With Carreras remaining in Spain, the interested English clubs must look elsewhere. Chelsea have shifted their focus toward securing Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano. Manchester United may abandon their search for a left-back entirely to prioritize reinforcements in central midfield and a potential replacement on the wing if Marcus Rashford departs.
