Jakarta Governor Urges Fire Vigilance Amid Dry Spell

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung speaks on fire prevention during the dry season

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung called on residents to stay vigilant against fire risks as the city enters a prolonged dry season. Meteorology officials predict this year's drought will last longer and bring drier conditions than usual.

Speaking in Mampang, South Jakarta, Pramono noted that dry weather significantly increases fire hazards across the capital. "As predicted by BMKG, this dry season will be long and dry," Pramono said. "The potential for fires is much higher under these conditions."

To counter the threat, the Jakarta Provincial Government has deployed preventive measures through the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Officials have distributed light fire extinguishers to every neighborhood unit across the city.

Pramono stressed that government efforts alone are not enough. He urged citizens to take active responsibility, particularly in densely populated areas such as Tambora and Cakung where fires spread rapidly.

According to the governor, small human actions often trigger major disasters during dry spells. He warned smokers against tossing cigarette butts carelessly and urged residents to inspect electrical wiring to prevent short circuits.
