Today Show Security Guard Fired After Studio Intrusion

Andrew Truelove was arrested after entering NBC Rockefeller Center studios during a live Today broadcast

A security guard lost his job after a man walked past the gates of the TODAY show studio. The network dismissed the guard following a breach at Studio 1A in New York City on Thursday. Reports from Page Six indicate that the suspect, Andrew Truelove, slipped past two guards. Surveillance footage caught the lapse. One guard had stepped away from his post. The other simply missed the man as he walked inside.

The intruder came looking for weather anchor Al Roker. Instead, he found host Craig Melvin. Police stated the suspect shouted racial slurs during the confrontation. Security personnel moved fast and the NYPD took the man into custody. According to authorities, Truelove now faces two hate crime charges. A judge later issued a protective order. The suspect must stay away from both Roker and Melvin.

The morning after the trouble, Melvin was back at his desk. He spoke clearly about the event during the broadcast. "An intruder made his way into an unauthorized area here at Studio 1A," Melvin said. He added that the man was caught quickly and that the studio is working with the police. Melvin told the audience he was safe and sound.

Al Roker shared his thoughts on social media before the Friday broadcast. He thanked those who checked on them and spoke of the bond between the hosts. Based on his statement, the incident showed the strength of the team. Roker noted that coming after one meant coming after all of them.

The studio anchor desk saw other changes that morning. Co-host Savannah Guthrie was absent for a long weekend. She had previously announced a brief departure to film a new game show. Melvin also left the desk early on Friday. His departure was for a vacation that had been planned before the intruder entered the studio.
