A Yamaha R15 motorcycle recovered by Teluknaga police after a novel theft incident in Tangerang.

The police have uncovered a new method of motorcycle theft at an apartment complex in the Teluknaga area of Tangerang. The perpetrator took the license plate and parking access card of another vehicle and placed them onto the victim's motorcycle to bypass security undetected.

According to Teluknaga Police Chief AKP Kevin Hotlando, the investigation began after a victim named Axel Putra Akbar reported the theft of his Yamaha R15 motorcycle. The vehicle had been parked at the apartment lot in the early hours of June 11, 2026.

Based on CCTV footage and field analysis, officers identified and arrested a 23-year-old suspect identified by his initials RR. Police seized the stolen Yamaha R15, security footage, and electronic evidence to support the prosecution.

The suspect allegedly broke the ignition lock of the motorcycle before swapping the license plate and using the stolen parking card to exit the gate without raising suspicion. Under the new Criminal Code, the suspect faces charges of grand theft under Article 477.

Tangerang Kota Metro Police Chief Kombes Raden Muhammad Jauhari praised the Teluknaga officers for their quick work. He urged residents to remain vigilant, use extra locks, and report suspicious activities to the police immediately.
