Suspects Face Extortion and Illegal Confinement Charges
The Central Jakarta Metro Police have formally detained seven suspects, consisting of five men and two women, in connection with the unlawful confinement of employees at the "Mau Print" printing shop in Senen, Central Jakarta. The arrests follow an intensive investigation into the severe mistreatment of the workers inside the facility.
Central Jakarta Police Chief Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung confirmed that the suspects, identified by their initials MML, AI, S, AYL, NHJ, CML, and II, were apprehended between June 27 and June 28. They are being charged under multiple articles of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) for extortion, threats, illegal deprivation of freedom, and physical assault.

Police disclosed that the three victims, Muhammad Jaelani, Tegar Saputra, and Adit Saputra, were held captive for 21 days after being accused of stealing printing plates worth Rp 250 million. During their confinement, the victims were reportedly shackled by their feet and deprived of food for three consecutive days, as confirmed by recent medical forensic examinations.
Investigators have questioned 17 witnesses and are currently consulting expert witnesses to build a solid legal framework for prosecution. Meanwhile, the owner of the printing shop has filed a counter-report against the three employees for the alleged theft, complicating the ongoing legal proceedings.
