South Jakarta Police Investigate Conflicting Claims of Theft and Confinement

Abdul Latif, an employee at a sports store specializing in padel gear in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, is facing a police investigation following a theft report filed against him. The legal escalation began just one day after Latif's mother filed a separate report with the authorities regarding her son's alleged confinement and physical assault by co-workers.

South Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Officer AKP Joko Adi confirmed that the theft complaint was formally lodged on June 25, 2026. According to official police records, the shop owner represented by an individual identified as MAS reported that Latif allegedly stole 10 padel rackets alongside a pair of premium shoes from the retail premises.

The authorities are currently questioning several witnesses to verify the validity of the business owner's claims before moving forward with interrogating the suspect. "We will reschedule the summons for the reported individual after completing the witness testimonies," Joko stated, noting that Latif has yet to appear for his scheduled questioning.

The legal saga reportedly began on June 21, 2026, when Latif was recalled to the shop by his colleagues under the pretext of an urgent matter, which his family claims led to extortion. Defense lawyer Nugraha Budi revealed that coworkers later visited Latif's family home demanding a compensation payment of Rp50 million for the missing sports equipment.
