Jakarta Public Order Agency chief Satriadi Gunawan addresses extortion allegations by an officer

According to the Chief of the Jakarta Public Order Agency, Satriadi Gunawan, an officer suspected of extorting a learning center in Cilincing, North Jakarta, has a long history of misconduct. Gunawan stated on Monday that the individual committed these actions while facing significant personal debt, describing the officer as someone whose expenses consistently exceeded his income.

The agency identified the suspect as Givson Samosir, an official attached to the East Jakarta branch rather than the North Jakarta office where the incident occurred. Gunawan noted that the officer had caused similar disruptions in various areas across the city prior to the current investigation.

Based on reports from the agency, authorities have initiated the process to temporarily suspend the suspect's salary while formal investigations continue. Gunawan emphasized that the administration must follow strict civil service protocols to ensure the legality of any subsequent disciplinary actions.

The suspect faces severe disciplinary sanctions, which could range from official suspension to outright termination from the force. Investigators from the civil service police unit are currently compiling the official case file to determine the final punishment.

The Jakarta Public Order Agency expressed deep regret over the extortion incident. According to official statements, citizens who encounter any public order officials demanding illegal fees are urged to report the misconduct immediately through the city's 112 emergency call center.
