Achieving Near-Universal Health Coverage and Expanding Local Aid
Acting Bekasi Regent Asep Surya Atmaja officially accepted the accolade during a ceremony held at Menara Kompas in Central Jakarta on Monday. The award honors local governments that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to improving foundational public welfare, particularly through robust healthcare accessibility.
Data reveals that Bekasi Regency has successfully attained a Universal Health Coverage (UHC) rate of 99.6 percent, ensuring almost the entire population is protected. For residents missing federal Kartu Indonesia Sehat (KIS) or national BPJS insurance, the local government bridges the gap using the regional Jamkesda program.

Asep Surya Atmaja, an alumnus of Trisakti University's Faculty of Medicine, stated that the recognition serves as a testament to the local administration's tangible contributions. "Wargan yang tidak mempunyai KIS atau BPJS kami berikan Jaminan Kesehatan Daerah," he remarked, noting that almost 100 percent of residents now hold health insurance.
The administration identifies rapid population growth and urbanization as the primary hurdles to maintaining this high UHC rate. Moving forward, the Bekasi Regency government plans to continuously synchronize civil registration data so that newly registered residents holding local ID cards can seamlessly access free medical care.
